Coach Glover
This is the story of Will Glover the high school football coach at Pell City Al. Coaching is a method of directing, instructing and training a person or group of people, with the aim to achieve some goal or develop specific skills. There are many ways to coach. However Will Glover had only one way of coaching. WIN EVERY GAME.
In high school, coach Glover taught math. Compensated by a small increase in pay, a coach must be eager to invest a lot of their time into the project and be passionate about the sport. There was no one more passionate about football than Coach Glover and his town and players knew it. Performing the duties of a defensive and offensive coordinator; Coach Glover would implement his own strength training program to ensure his team against injury’s. Coach Glover was the main force behind getting a new stadium built for his boys in Pell City Alabama. But his most memorable coaching came as a father to his two sons Bill Glover of Flowood, MS, and Dr. Jeff Glover of Brandon, MS. Dr. Glover honored his father in an acceptance speech into the St. Clair County Alabama Hall Of Fame five years ago. When asked why he became a Dr. he stated he didn’t have a choice. “Dad told Bill: You’re going to be a lawyer and Jeff you a Dr.” Author William H. Glover Jr. J.D. also played football at Ole Miss. and his son Peter Glover followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and is the Defensive Coordinator for Terry High School football team in Terry, MS. The Glovermen legacy continues with 5 grandsons.
Many players would go on with careers in sports and be inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame. We will be sharing many of these stories with you in the months ahead.
